About the Project
Midway Peace Park, a new 5.5-acre park, will be within a 10-minute walk of over 6000 residents.
Midway is home to a diverse community, including many new Somali and Hmong immigrants. But the neighborhood is defined by dense housing and vast parking lots, with sidewalks acting as gathering places for most—including the residents of Skyline Towers and the students of two high schools in the neighborhood.
Since 2012, The Trust for Public land has worked hand-in-hand with the community and the City of St. Paul to create a vision for the park. Thousands of community members – across ages, affiliations and ethnicities – have come together around a collective vision to build a park as diverse and vibrant as the community it will serve.
Our engagement with the community has translated to people who are invested in the park, and who recognize its benefits for the social and environmental resiliency of the neighborhood. This park will be loved.
Khalique Rogers, a former student at Gordon Parks High School, said he was most excited about “having the community see each other again, giving them the opportunity to actually shake hands with their neighbors.”
The project’s ultimate success is still ahead of us! With ground-breaking less than 12 months away, the park project is at a critical juncture.
Give today and help bring a quality park to the people of Midway.
